We all know who Brett Favre is, what he represents, what team he'll really be remembered by, and everything that has to do with this summer-long saga that has, for the time being, been put to rest. But what you don't know is that Brett Favre is not Joe Montana. Not because he didn't win three additional Super Bowls or didn't have Jerry Rice, but because he, at 38, still has it. Brett is not Dan Marino. Not because he's better in every meaningful statistical category after passing Marino, and not because he actually won a Super Bowl, but because nearing the end of his career, he isn't playing with hobbled ankles. Our beloved number four is not John Elway. Not because the odds are against him to go out on top winning a championship, let alone two in a row, but because he isn't limping into the 2008 season, and he doesn't look like he's 50 when he's only pushing 40. Brett Favre is Brett Favre, and there has been no one like him, and undoubtedly we will never see anyone like him again. And because of that, I will explain to you why Favre and the Jets will shock us all. (3 comments, 912 words in story) Full Story By kroberts, Section NFL
Finally, we're making some ground. After all of the speculation, the he said, she said quotes and misquotes, we finally know the truth. Brett Favre wants back into the NFL, and the Packers don't want him on their team. While it doesn't appear likely that either side will be changing their mind anytime soon, (Brett is set on returning, and the Packers are focused on Aaron Rodgers) now is the time to start focusing on where Favre will be playing next season. The Green Bay Packers have emphatically stated they will not release Favre, in fear he could go to a rival and beat them twice a season. They probably would be reluctant to let him go to another NFC team, as well, in fear they could meet him in the playoffs. So, what then? Trade him to Baltimore and possibly see him in the Super Bowl? Ted Thompson is truly in a lose-lose, here. If Brett is reinstated and rides the bench, chants of "we want brett" will be heard for all 8 home games. Aaron Rodgers won't make it out of Green Bay alive. Regardless of the actual outcome, what's better than speculating just a little further in the epic story that has become "the retirement of Brett Favre"? Here is a look at all of the 31 other teams Brett Favre is more likely to play for, and reasons why or why not it will actually happen: (1 comment, 1274 words in story) Full Story By PHiCTiON, Section Journals
If the reports are true, then Favre has already asked to be released from Green Bay. Finally! It's not that I'm happy that the our Star MVP Quarterback is leaving, but at least now another team has to deal with this crap! (347 words in story) Full Story By SportsFan22, Section NFL
This is the NFL off-season right? It is amazing that the off-season of the NFL dominates the headlines more than other sports regular season. We have seen the NFL Draft, free agency, the debate over rookie contracts, defensive ends Dancing with the Stars and now the biggest dance of them all, the Brett Favre retirement tease. Just when you thought you would see your first season without #4 in Green Bay, it sounds as if we may be seeing Favre play again this fall... but will it be back in Green Bay? The day has finally come. It is time to say goodbye to everyone's favorite fun-lovin', gun-slingin', Wrangler wearin', 5'o clock shadow-havin', burger eatin', just another regular guy like you or me (except for the money, rugged good looks, and talent) quarterback. The announcement came early Monday morning around 7:30am Eastern Time: Brett Favre is officially retiring... probably. (4 comments, 686 words in story) Full Story By kroberts, Section NFL
I'm sorry cheese heads, but the dream has died. For the second time in four seasons, the Packer Nation was teased with the idea of a "magical" season that seemingly could have no end. But that's the trouble in having Brett Favre as your quarterback. While you're never out of a game, you're just as sure to have your heart ripped out in the final seconds by a coined Favre interception. But let's not hang our heads. The 2007 Green Bay Packers accomplished many things, let alone reached the conference championship game. Along the way to a 13-3 record, the Title Town natives escaped tough road game at Denver and Kansas City, beat one of the two teams in the AFC Championship, and won one of two against this year's NFC representative in the Super Bowl. Granted, they couldn't finish things up in the most crucial match-up of the season, but can you really blame them?
Well, actually, yes you can. (5 comments, 734 words in story) Full Story By kroberts, Section NFL
Aside from the lovely Thanksgiving Dinner yesterday and a Green Bay Packer win, I am left so very unsatisfied. Once again, Thanksgiving Day Football has left me uninspired and left wanting more. More from the players, frankly, as they have time and time again dashed my hopes of gaining a strategic edge in fantasy football before the Sunday games could come around to us. But alas, like every year during this holiday, the games are poor contests with even worse statistics. Aside for Favre going off like this was his last game on earth, it was a huge bummer. And with that said, here are the 32 things I am NOT thankful for in sports, but most notably the NFL, just one day after the holiday. I'm sick of hearing about the New England Patriots. Don't get me wrong, I love the way they play. Hell, I love everything about them. I hope and pray Tom Brady shatters the touchdown mark. But enough, already. And forget about the Indianapolis Colts. I'm tired of hearing about the greatness of Tony Dungy or the execution and finesse of Peyton Manning. And don't even get me started on the star on the rise; Joseph Addai.(Mostly because Chris Berman and his stupid "to live and let" nickname)Because, honestly, it's gotten very repetitive and boring. Since no one else cares about anything except the winner of the AFC championship game, I'm going to go out on a limb and talk about the best team not being talked about. The best team that isn't from New England or Indianapolis. I'm going to talk about the Green Bay Packers. (1 comment, 557 words in story) Full Story By kroberts, Section NFL
The NFL amazes me. Once again, they have found a way to not only enrage a superstar, but they may have found a way to phase him out, as well. Brett Favre, merely an average season away from three major records, recently expressed his displeasure for Ted Thompson and the Green Bay Packers organization when they failed to bring in Randy Moss.
