...when you see athletes complain about how they are treated unfairly in court, by the police, by the media, or even by family and friends.  You are a celebrity, different treatment, whether it be negative or positive, tends to come with the territory.  You didn't honestly think that you would be treated like everyone else even though your actions are documented on a daily basis by local and national media, did you?  Come on!

Time for Chad

By extremebrian, Section Journals

More on: (all tags)

Just do it already! It's June 1...it's time for the Philadelphia Eagles to make a serious run for Chad Johnson (a serious run, not another repeat of their lame attempt to bring Randy Moss to Philadelphia). A deal makes sense for the Eagles. A deal makes sense for the Bengals.

Releasing Chad at this time would make cap sense for the Bengals and close out the summer-long feud between the team and their star wide receiver (after June 1 the $8.03 million salary cap hit could be spread across two years). Trading for Chad at this time would allow the Eagles to bring closure to the Lito Sheppard issue before the next round of mini-camps. The Eagles need to make the Bengals an offer that can't be refused, whether it is a combination of 2009 draft picks that include one (or both) of their number one picks (the Eagles seem to have stopped using number-one picks anyway!) or offering a number one pick and Lito Shepard.

Don't Shut the Window!

Penguins 6, Flyers 0...it has now been 25 years since Philadelphia's last professional sports championship (1983 - Philadelphia 76ers).  I was 4 years old, I am now 28!

But there is reason for optimism...the E-A-G-L-E-S!  Am I delusional, overly-optimistic, desperate, drinking the green kool-aid...all possible.  But as a Philadelphia fan our mantra is "wait until next year" or "this is our year".  Well we are only a few short months away from next year being this year!

It's Joba Time!

"Hey Boss, I need to leave early on Tuesday."

"How come...everything OK?"

" Yep, Joba is STARTING!!"

1 out of 3...things have to turn around for the Yankees and their trio of young pitchers.  Kennedy and Hughes are a combined 0-7 and sporting ERAs above 7.00!  If this is the future...anyone good in the 2009 free agent class?!?  But the fortunes can change and they will change on Tuesday night with Joba Chamberlain moving to the starting rotation.

On the Buzz Bissinger Blog Fiasco

I find it amusing that Bissinger and others cling to this strange idea that intelligence in the area of analyzing sports can only be certified with a degree in journalism. It really is outside the confines of logic. Good writing beats access any day of the week. It is the reader's digression in determining whether or not a particular blog has quality content, but the merits of the content should never be disqualified because the writer doesn't have access. Yeah, Alex Belth [of Bronx Banter] wasn't visiting the clubhouse before writing his game reports back when he churned them out on a daily basis, but nullifying the analytical, and emotional, content of his posts because he was watching the games at home is an utterly backward notion.

Bissinger's point of view comes off as simplistic. And it's disappointing, because I thought Friday Night Lights was a masterpiece. Excellent writing and commentary supported by even better reporting. So I was disappointed by Bissinger's performance on HBO, to say the least.

"Be ready to be surprised." That was one of the tenets of Loesje, a Dutch organization for creative thinking and positive energy. And naturally there's no better way to launch into an NFL bit than call on the wisdom of modern-day hippies from the Netherlands. At least that's what my grandfather always said.
